Kaldvík receives ASC certification for two additional sites in Fáskrúðsfjörður

Kaldvík has received ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) certification for its two farming sites in Fáskrúðsfjörður, Höfðahúsabót and Fagraeyri. This recognition confirms that Kaldvík’s operations meet the strict ASC requirements for social responsibility, animal welfare, and environmental protection, and brings the total number of ASC-certified sites in the company’s portfolio to seven.

The ASC certification is one of the most recognized international labels in aquaculture. It requires a comprehensive audit of farming practices, covering environmental impact, fish welfare, community relations, and full traceability throughout the value chain.

“Achieving ASC certification for our final two sites is an important milestone,” says Sandra Eiðsdóttir, Quality Manager at Kaldvík. “ASC is about farming in a way that is good for the environment, fair to people, and safe and transparent for consumers. For us and our customers, this recognition is a strong validation that we are operating to the highest standards across all of our sites.”

Strengthening global partnerships

ASC certification is widely recognized in key markets worldwide and strengthens Kaldvík’s position in working with leading partners and buyers.

“Our customers in Europe, Asia, and North America are increasingly focused on sustainability and certification,” Sandra continues. “Being fully ASC certified allows us to meet those expectations and enhances our credibility in the global marketplace.”

Commitment to fish health and the environment

The ASC framework includes strict requirements for monitoring and reporting, such as regular testing of discharge water, seabed monitoring, fish health management, and efforts to minimize environmental impact. Close cooperation with veterinarians is also a key element in ensuring fish welfare and biosecurity.

The certification also emphasizes social responsibility, requiring companies to provide safe workplaces, uphold employee rights, and maintain strong relationships with local communities and municipalities.

A milestone for Kaldvík’s long-term growth

The completion of ASC certification across all seven farming sites represents a significant milestone in Kaldvík’s long-term strategy to build a globally recognized and sustainable aquaculture business in Iceland’s East Fjords.

“We are proud of this achievement and see it as both recognition of our work to date and motivation to continue developing in harmony with nature and our surrounding communities,” Sandra concludes.
